The detox phase is designed to help your body eliminate harmful toxins often called Xenobiotics. Xenobiotics encompass a variety of substances including pharmaceutical drugs, industrial chemicals, environmental pollutants, food additives, and pesticides, among others that may have accumulated due to environmental pollutants, poor diet, or other factors. You can learn more about Xenobiotics and the importance of Detoxification here.
In these modern times, still under the influence of the industrial revolution, there are very limited regulations on chemical industries, including our food supply. Most of these chemicals, hidden in the food we eat, air we breath, water we drink or that we come in contact with our skin, are toxic to our bodies and over time create a buildup burden that taps our energy, making our bodies sluggish and causing premature aging.
Detoxification requires energy. So it is important to nourish your body before you enter any detoxification program and that you allocate enough time for rest and relaxation during this phase.
Before detoxifying make sure you:
If you're feeling too weak, focus on nourishing or adapting your body first, getting lots of rest till you are able to detoxify. Stress creates congestion which is the opposite of what you want to accomplish.
For best results it's important to follow a detoxification order, starting with colon and following with liver and kidneys. A good and inexpensive start is always a juice cleanse or the Master Cleanse. But it will depend where you start from. For example, if you're used to eating fast, fried and/or processed foods with lots of additives and sugars, then transitioning to an alive vegetable diet with lots of fiber and greens would be considered a cleanse.
